About The Finite World

The Finite World is a blog and website covering resources and energy.  Technology, policy, and new ideas are all covered.

The Finite World is based on two presuppositions:

1. The world we live in is, for all intents and purposes, a finite place.*
2. Our current economic system requires constant growth to function.

The world economy is consuming more and more resources every year, including billions of barrels of oil every year, at rates far greater than those at which these resources can be replenished. At some point, each resource that is consumed at a faster rate than it is replenished will diminish and eventually disappear. No more resources = no more economy.  At some point, something's gotta give.  Before we can decide how to move our society to a more sustainable way of living, we need to know what our options are.

Once we know what options we have, we can get to the the central question: “What happens next?” This problem is ours. It is an issue that must be solved by its creator – human society – in a proactive and sensible manner.  There are many possible ways to live, and we need to decide which path to take.  Register.  Leave comments.  Or shoot me an e-mail and I'll post you're comments if they're good.

And finally, remember to Act, whether its just at home or as an activist.  You can't change anything if you do nothing.

The Finite World donates 10% of its income to organizations making a difference. We are hosted by Taproot Hosting, the people focused, planet conscious service provider. Check them out here.

*By “world”, I include the solar system and more broadly the universe. This finite world includes the energy earth receives from the sun as well as dust entering our atmosphere and gases leaving it. If you can show me a sustainable way to do space exploration, I’m all ears.
